📍
Located just north of the famous palm forest of Vai, Itanos is an ancient city that lends its name to the area, situated 96km east of Agios Nikolaos and 26km east of Sitia.

Adjacent to the archaeological site of Itanos lies the three consecutive bays of Erimoupolis, providing an opportunity to combine a visit to the ancient ruins with a refreshing dive in the cool waters. Notably, part of the ancient city has been identified underwater, offering a unique experience for snorkeling above the ruins.

To access the site, visitors can drive to the archaeological site and park there. Short trails lead to the local beaches, with the first beach situated to the south of a small fort that was once located at the tip of a small peninsula.

🏖
The beach is characterized by whitish sand, calm waters, and scattered palm trees offering shade. The beach is quiet and not organized.

The second beach of Erimoupolis is located in front of the Itanos parking lot, with sandy shores and rocks in several places, making it ideal for snorkeling. The beach is surrounded by trees, offering a pleasant shade.

🌊
The most stunning beach is hidden behind the hill to the north of the parking area. It is the longest beach of the area and boasts breathtaking turquoise waters and fine sand. Though not organized, it has gained popularity among visitors.
