Our impressions
The small village of Frangokastello is truly enchanting for anyone who visits it. Travelers will discover the hidden charm of this place, with its ancient castle, superb beaches, picturesque atmosphere and nearby natural wonders.
Frangokastello is located about 80 km south of Chania and 15 km east of Chora Sfakia, where you’ll find ATM and all other services. The Frangokastello village offers many restaurants and taverns. You can also reach this place from Rethymno passing through Plakias.
Frangokastello beach is one of the most fascinating in Crete, with clear and shallow waters that extend for almost 100 meters, making it the perfect destination for families with children.
The shallow turquoise water, the perfect fine golden sand and the mountain backdrop with the old Venetian fortress make it an amazing place for swimming and sunbathing.
There are actually three beaches in Frangokastello, the one under the castle (250 meters long) is the best but also the busiest. The east Orthi Amnos (700 meters long) is the quietest. The west Vatalos beach in long and sandy, with some rock in place.
