Located south-west, the village of Sougia is among a peaceful destination that has not yet been overrun by mass tourism, which retains much of its authentic character and natural environment.
After a trip of about 1 hour and an half from Chania, Sougia comes with a pleasant beach which is about 1.2km long and quite wide. The pebble beach is almost never crowded and allows naturism on the east part, while the west is a little more organized with taverns and beach bar.
The water is extremely clear and quite calm most of the time, the depth of the sea increases quite quickly, so children should always be supervised.
Besides the beach, there are many other fascinating places to discover and things to experience nearby. An excursion to the archaeological site and Lissos gorge, explore the Agia Irini Gorge, visit the extraordinary and ancient Eliros or the chapel of Prophet Elias are some of the suggestion we can do.
Consider that Sougia is also reachable with ferry line that daily runs from Palochora to Sfakia.
