Welcome to ILoveCrete Blog Edition!

As many of you might already know, my name is Elena and I’m the founder of ILoveCrete (my IG here). I’m an Italian travel content creator and I’m in love with the beautiful Crete island. Since the first time I was there, I felt a special bond with Crete. I loved this place so much that I decided to start my personal project on Instagram, to help other people discover the Cretan beauty and fall in love with it. Now, as the ILoveCrete community is growing bigger day by day, I’ve decided to start my blog too, in order to help my followers find the information they need, provide useful content about traveling to Crete and make connections happen between Cretan business and tourists.

Traveling to Crete helped me re-discover and reconnect to all those small things that make life beautiful and valuable. Living slow, enjoying the moment, tasty local food, kind people, nature. I love helping people visiting Crete enjoy this kind of experience, living a memorable sustainable journey on the island. For the same reason, I also love supporting Cretan businesses and activities which provide authentic experiences. And as a part of my mission, I help them grow their visibility on social media, let them be discovered, and connect with people who are looking for a life-changing journey.

Since I love meeting people and getting to know their stories, I also want my blog to be a place where people can share their stories, and their Cretan projects, and, of course, talk about their special bond with the island. That’s why I’m really excited to introduce to you the first guest interviewee of this blogging adventure: Microcosmo Creta (IG profile here).

THE STORY BEHIND MICROCOSMO CRETA

Beatrice and Enrico are from Vicenza (Italy), they are happily married and have lived in Crete since 2014. Microcosmo Creta is the final destination of their life journey in the pursuit of something more.

We had already been realizing for some time that we both lacked something, – share Beatrice and Enrico –We did not feel completely fulfilled and needed a big change; so, one day, we looked into each other’s eyes and realized what we really wanted: to build a work project TOGETHER!

Being able to work outdoors for several hours a day, living near the sea, in a location that is always warm or has a mild climate, and being in constant contact with people from all over the world. This was the life we envisioned. After years of thinking about locations in Italy and around the world, we came to choose our Microcosmo Creta. We also select our path: to create a tourism business in order to offer people what we would like to find when we go on vacation.”

They’ve found something more in Crete, thanks to their inspiring activity and to the intangible things that make this island unique.

“Life in Crete generally flows peacefully and calmly. Here we live contenting ourselves with little, at a more relaxed pace of life and work than we were used to.- explain Beatrice and Enrico, when I ask them what they love most about Crete– The food is really good value for money, the climate is nothing short of fantastic, and the landscapes are enchanting. The constant proximity to the sea, then, as we know, is often enough to release any stress. Last but not least, the Cretans are a hospitable, kind, and open people towards foreigners and tourists. We love that they are genuine, warm, smiling, and festive.”

Every life decision comes with some challenges to overcome, especially when moving to a new country and adapting to a different culture. For Beatrice and Enrico too, running a new life and a new business in a place different from home means facing some challenges.

“The biggest challenges for us are basically three.- Share Beatrice and Enrico – In winter, there is no work at all with tourism and the island is quite empty. We like to see people, movement, always being busy with something, and varying in what we do. So, sometimes the winter months are tough for us. Another challenging aspect is the fact that Cretans are very attached to their traditions, and sometimes we miss something more international. However, we admire the respect Cretan people have for their traditions. The last thing we find quite difficult to adapt to is response times. Sometimes, they can be very long, when running a business. But we are aware that our expectations come from the frenetic rhythms of northern Italians, flowing through our veins.”

And this is among the reasons why also us at ILoveCrete we are planning to move to Crete, in search of the well-being of life at a slower pace: to decelerate and enjoy the beauty of every moment and flow with life.
